With the Robertson signing wrapped up, it’s confirmed: the Dallas Stars are keeping their star winger for another year at $12 million AAV. Worth noting, though, it’s a one-year deal, not the long-term extension many expected. That means the story isn’t fully closed. Robertson can sign a new deal as early as January 1st, and until then, the trade and extension chatter around him isn’t going anywhere.

Beyond that, this is a sign that the dog days of the offseason are officially here, and there aren’t many more big splashes left to be made. But I personally believe the action is far from over.

For starters, the Red Wings are in the market for a new GM following Steve Yzerman’s resignation. Detroit’s front office will surely be a storyline worth keeping tabs on, because their lucky new GM will likely have many big decisions to make the minute he gets to his desk. I’ll be quite interested to see what the new management does regarding their ex-captain Dylan Larkin’s trade request. Is it worth keeping a player who doesn’t want to play for your organization simply because his return offers are terrible? That’s a question to which I believe no one holds the answer.
